Sweden’s New Education Law Makes Homeschooling Illegal

The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) reports on a law just passed in Sweden that essentially makes homeschooling illegal. As Americans who cherish our freedom to home educate, it’s always painful to hear about home school families–wherever they are–getting their rights taken away. We need to be on guard, as always, for any legislation here in Arkansas or at the national level that would further restrict home education. Prayer Requests for German Homeschoolers

Most German homes school families have left the country or have stopped homeschooling because of severe pressure from the government. The remaining 25 families that continue to home school in Germany are defending their unpromising cases in court. Penalty payments for some of them amount to $5,000 US; some are in an early stage of court battles; some are facing undeserved custody battles; for others jail has already been executed. Brazilian Court Convicts Homeschool Family Despite Evidence of Success

MINAS GERAIS, BRAZIL, December 23, 2008 – Cleber and Bernadeth Nunes have been convicted by a second civil court in Brazil for homeschooling their children despite passing government-imposed tests that teachers admitted they could not pass themselves.
