HOMESCHOOLING: Prosecution is waged abroad, while troubling trends abound in US

The following excerpt is from an interview Mike Farris, president of Home School Legal Defense Association, did with the Baptist Press:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–As the practice of homeschooling continues to grow, an expert has noticed a “marked increase” in the scrutiny that parents and students can face when they choose to pursue an education at home.

“I think what we’re seeing is unfortunately a growing trend,” Michael Farris, chancellor of Patrick Henry College, told Baptist Press.

Sweden’s New Education Law Makes Homeschooling Illegal

The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) reports on a law just passed in Sweden that essentially makes homeschooling illegal. As Americans who cherish our freedom to home educate, it’s always painful to hear about home school families–wherever they are–getting their rights taken away. We need to be on guard, as always, for any legislation here in Arkansas or at the national level that would further restrict home education. Home School Test Scores Rise

Arkansas’ home school students have outperformed their public school counterparts on standardized tests since 1985. However, this year the gap has widened, with Arkansas home school students scoring in the 61st through 80th percentiles–well above the national average.
