Senator Gilbert Baker from Conway has filed a bill, unofficially referred to as the “Tim Tebow Home School Bill,” to allow home school students to participate in public school extracurricular activities, including athletics.

If passed, this law would allow home schoolers to try out for sports and other school programs, including fine arts activities and special interest clubs.

The bill was inspired by Tim Tebow, a home school student who was allowed to play football at his local Florida high school due to similar legislation enacted there in 1996. Tebow went on to quarterback the Florida Gators, and was awarded the coveted Heisman Trophy in 2007—just ahead of Arkansas Razorback Darren McFadden.

Senator Baker plans to run the bill soon. If you would like to weigh in on this legislation, please call your Senator at (501) 682-2902.

We will keep you posted on this bill in the days to come.
