{"id":1914,"date":"2013-11-29T06:30:04","date_gmt":"2013-11-29T13:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arkansashomeschool.org\/?p=1914"},"modified":"2013-11-18T14:44:47","modified_gmt":"2013-11-18T21:44:47","slug":"a-life-style-of-learning-25-years-later","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arkansashomeschool.org\/index.php\/2013\/11\/29\/a-life-style-of-learning-25-years-later\/","title":{"rendered":"A Life Style of Learning \u2013 25 years later\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Taken from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherhaupt.com\/\">http:\/\/www.heatherhaupt.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.heatherhaupt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/LifeStyleLearningquote-1024x867.jpg\" alt=\"Developing a life-style of learning leads to life-long learning and lessons that stick with you for the rest of your life.\" width=\"819\" height=\"694\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.heatherhaupt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/envelope-system-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"Using the envelope system is a great way to help kids understand finances.\" width=\"819\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I still remember the day, some 25 years ago or so when my mom taught us the envelope system. \u00a0Every time we made some money, we\u2019d set aside 10% for tithe and giving. \u00a0I don\u2019t remember if I had a defined way to split up savings and spending money, except that I preferred the idea of saving for something special so most of my money went into that envelope. \u00a0I remember just talking with her about finances and going to Scripture together as we explored what God had to say about money. \u00a0Oh I felt so excited to have my VERY OWN money to drop in the offering bucket at church. \u00a0Since we needed something to hold our envelopes, each of us 3 girls were allowed to select a tin pencil box. \u00a0While I sort of seem girly now, I was quite the tomboy at that age and nothing would do except this sports themed tin. \u00a0It saw me through several years until I finally opened a bank account and started keeping money there. \u00a0 And being an overly sentimental pack-rat {I can hear my friends snickering}, I realized that I still had it!
