Arkansas’ home school students have outperformed their public school counterparts on standardized tests since 1985. However, this year the gap has widened, with Arkansas home school students scoring in the 61st through 80th percentiles–well above the national average.

Yesterday officials of the National Merit Scholarship Program announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 55th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $36 million, that will be offered next spring.Â
